Safiya Lahlaf on “Moving On”

This piece is based on an urban legend from the town that I grew up in. My family lives on the other side of town, so I don’t have much personal experience with these particular ghosts. Until I began researching the backstory, all I knew was that the road is said to be haunted. One of my friends, however, lives nearby and always jokes that the only thing to see there is the rollerblading nuns. While writing this piece, I hoped to explore the mundane origins that myths often spring from, as well as what it means to move on.
